W. Lee Flowers and Company is pleased to announce that the Godwin’s IGA store in Rose Hill, NC, the Chester IGA in Chester, SC, and Shumpert’s IGA in Pelion, SC have all been awarded the prestigious Five Star rating. Out of over 1,600 stores nationwide, only 256 received this honor.
The Five Star rating is part of a bold initiative to ensure IGA’s independently owned and operated supermarkets are consistent in their high level of cleanliness and operational excellence. As part of this effort, an independent third party expert conducts operational assessments of each supermarket focusing on the customer’s experience. In all, dozens of items are checked including cleanliness, product selection, store appearance, use of technology and others. To receive the Five Star rating, a supermarket must meet or exceed at least ninety-two percent of these standards.
IGA is the world’s largest voluntary supermarket network with aggregate worldwide retail sales of more than $36.5 billion per year. The Alliance includes over 5,000 Hometown Proud Supermarkets worldwide, supported by 29 distribution centers and more than 30 major manufacturers, vendors and suppliers encompassing everything from grocery to equipment items. IGA has operations in 46 states and more than 30 countries around the world.
W. Lee Flowers and Company was founded in 1922 and is based in Lake City, SC. As an IGA Licensed Distribution Center, W. Lee Flowers and Company operates or supplies 80 IGA and independent supermarkets in the Carolinas and Georgia. It ranks as one of the largest South Carolina headquartered grocery retailers and is the only retailer based in Florence County.
Congratulations to these three IGA stores on their many accomplishments.
